There are 3 diferent methods of distributing a book and many different ways of doing each.

OPTION 1: Self Distribution

Self Distribution is active (meaning it requires your time to sell your book) but is also free to set up, low risk and has high returns. This is the distribution method that is the most fun as you can instantly see the results of a sale when you see how happy your book has made another person.

The main methods used to distribute a book yourself include networking, book launches and speaking arrangments that provide you with the opportunity to sell your book afterwards. A marketing kit containing business cards, flyers and a pop up banner will be useful tools for this distribution method.

OPTION 2: Online Distribution

Online Distribution is passive (meaning you can make a sale without needing to be there at the time) has some set up costs involved cost but is also low risk and has high returns. This is the distribution method that makes the most money as you can literally wake up in the morning with money in your bank account having done nothing for it (once the process is fully automated).

The main methods used to distribute a book online include a customised template, multiple pages of content, a content manager and a shopping cart. A marketing kit containing search engine optimisation, blogging, email marketing and affiliate marketing will be useful tools for this distribution method.

OPTION 3: Bookstore Distribution

Bookstore Distribution is a combination of the two (meaning you don't need to be there to make a sale but when you are involved eg. printed or broadcasted media attention) you sell more. It has some set up costs involved but is high risk and has low returns. This is the distribution method however that brings the most creditability to both you and your book by having it available in stores nation or world wide.

The main methods used to distribute a book in bookstores is via one or more of the following 3 channels; AU/NZ, UK/English Speaking Europe and US/Canada. A marketing kit including sending a press release, following up the media and offering to sign books will be useful tools for this distribution method.
